As a busy mom, you juggle a lot everyday. In squall of everyday chores, don’t forget to prioritize yourself. Remember –

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, not what’s left of you.”

Below are some tips that have helped me form a routine and am able to stick to it for the past few years. Honestly these can work for any parent (mom or dad)

  • Schedule- Schedule , Schedule and schedule- I cant stress enough on this. If its in your schedule, it will happen. As you make a schedule, meal plans, kids classes, make sure to leave some room for yourself. Put your workout time on your calendar.
  • Be Consistent- Dont let perfect be enemy of good. Not everyday is going to be a perfect 60 min gym day. Try not to fall into trap of all or nothing. A 10 min elliptical is better than no workout. Remember consistency over perfection.
  • Form Goals- Write down your goals and understand what you are trying to achieve from your workouts. If you are trying to loose weight vs building muscle or mobility. Make your workouts help you achieve those goals.
  • Medical Check- Check with your physician before starting a new routine or based on your condition if certain workouts are ok to follow.
  • Set up yourself for success– if you have home gym, make sure you have right equipment for the type of workouts you want to do – Resistance bands, mat, dumbbells. If you go to gym, make sure you take time to learn the gym schedules, workout equipment accordingly. Most of gyms include professional services to help you understand gym equipment free of cost, just ask.
  • Be Flexible-If you are a busy mom, its possible you might not be able to stick to same time of the day everyday. Some days mornings might be better and others evenings might work. Make your schedule accordingly and have a flexible mindset. Remember goals is to do a workout in the day.
  • Partner with Partner- Communicate your goals to your partner and encourage your partner to form the gym schedule as well. That way you both can support each others goals.
  • Say No to Guilt- Get rid of guilt, include kids where and when you can. Like taking family yoga class.
  • Use Apps/AI – Ask AI to help you find workouts including instructions, equipment you need and alternatives. Use apps like Apple health, Peleton or others for effective workouts that you can follow at your own time.
  • Workout Buddy – Find a workout buddy, to help you hold accountable and motivate. You do the same for your buddy!
